What Application Development & Maintenance contributes to Cardinal HealthInformation Technology oversees the effective development, delivery, and operation of computing and information services. This function anticipates, plans, and delivers Information Technology solutions and strategies that enable operations and drive business value.Application Development & Maintenance performs configuration or coding to develop, enhance and sustain the organization's software systems in a cross-functional team environment through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering practices. This job family programs and configures end user applications, systems, databases and websites to achieve the organization's internal needs and externally-facing business needs. Application Development & Maintenance partners with business leaders, investigates user needs and conducts regular assessments, maintenance and enhancements of existing applications.What is expected of you and others at this levelApplies comprehensive knowledge and a thorough understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks and projectsMay contribute to the development of policies and proceduresWorks on complex projects of large scopeDevelops technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problemsSolutions are innovative and consistent with organization objectivesCompletes work; independently receives general guidance on new projectsWork reviewed for purpose of meeting objectivesMay act as a mentor to less experienced colleaguesResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and deploy software solutions that align with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.Conduct peer reviews of design and code to ensure quality and adherence to best practices.Collaborate with senior technical leads, functional and validation teams, software consulting partners, shared services, and managed services teams.Maintain and manage technical documentation for systems and solutions.Translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.Implement software using a combination of out-of-the-box configurations, process extensions, and custom scripts or code.Write, debug, and troubleshoot application code across multiple layers.Develop and optimize SQL queries; troubleshoot data-related issues across databases like PostgreSQL, Oracle, and DB2.Contribute to the development of the organization’s multi-year technology roadmap.Qualifications4-8 years of experience, preferredBachelor's degree in related field preferred, or equivalent work experience, preferredProgramming & Problem Solving: Strong programming fundamentals and excellent problem-solving skills.Strong programming fundamentals with the ability to leverage AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity and code qualityBackend Development: Strong proficiency in Java/J2EE, especially microservices architecture using Spring Boot, Hibernate, and ORM frameworks.Frontend Development: Experience with modern responsive UI frameworks such as Angular – preferred.Cloud Migration: Experience with migrating applications from PCF (Tanzu) to Kubernetes is a plus.Database Skills: Advanced SQL skills and performance tuning across PostgreSQL, Oracle, and DB2.Scripting Languages: Hands-on experience with Bash, PowerShell, Node.js, Groovy, Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript.DevOps & CI/CD: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Concourse, Jenkins, and other automation platforms.Architecture & Design: Knowledge of cloud-native architecture, 12-factor app principles, and agile/DevOps methodologies.API & Security: Expertise in designing and securing RESTful APIs and microservices using Spring Security with OAuth2, API gateway Apigee, Postman.Monitoring & Logging: Experience with tools like Splunk and Dynatrace for application monitoring and logging.Application Security: Understanding of secure coding practices and application security concepts.Generative AI Tools: Exposure to tools like GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted development platforms.Cloud-Native & Serverless Computing: Hands-on experience with cloud-native resources and serverless computing using Google Cloud Functions (Python, Java), enabling scalable, event-driven architectures.Event-Driven Architecture: Experience integrating Kafka for real-time data streaming and decoupled service communication.Anticipated salary range: $94,900 - $135,600Bonus eligible: NoBenefits: Cardinal Health offers a wide variety of benefits and programs to support health and well-being.Medical, dental and vision coveragePaid time off planHealth savings account (HSA)401k savings planAccess to wages before pay day with myFlexPayFlexible spending accounts (FSAs)Short- and long-term disability coverageWork-Life resourcesPaid parental leaveHealthy lifestyle programsApplication window anticipated to close: 08/29/2026 *if interested in opportunity, please submit application as soon as possible.The salary range listed is an estimate.
